Become part of EIFER and drive climate solutions where science meets industry.

EIFER seeks a student for an internship position (m/f/d) with the title
“Cost evaluation of natural hydrogen business models”

This position in Karlsruhe starts on the 01.04.2025 and will last for 6 months (compulsory internship).
Weekly working hours will be 39.5 hours.
Remuneration: 560€ monthly

Founded by EDF and KIT in 2002, EIFER bridges science and industry, providing innovative energy solutions for a sustainable future.

Natural hydrogen is produced naturally in the Earth's crust through processes like serpentinization and water radiolysis. This emerging sector is gaining momentum, with projects exploring this new energy resource worldwide. Ongoing research focuses on understanding the geological processes behind hydrogen generation, migration and accumulation and identifying key elements of natural hydrogen systems.

The cost of natural hydrogen will be crucial for the sector's growth. This internship will focus on developing a techno-economic model for the natural hydrogen value chain, covering resources (exploration, drilling) and supply chain (extraction, purification, transport). The model will be built through literature review and collaboration with EIFER experts. Case studies will involve gathering input data (e.g., well depth, hydrogen volume, purity, transport distance, business models) and testing the model’s sensitivity to extraction and supply chain parameters to evaluate the cost range of natural hydrogen.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and desktop studies

  • Develop techno-economic models

  • Prepare written reports in English

  • Present results orally in both French and English

Requirements
