Internship in communictaion in artist studio Apelbaum

Berlin
Veröffentlicht am 28.06.2024 Praktikum

Studio Apelbaum (and Analogdream e.V.), based in Berlin Mitte and led by Jonathan Apelbaum, explores gender, sexuality, and intimacy through oil paintings merging traditional art forms with interactive technologies. Their 'cognitive' paintings, developed over six years, dynamically respond to the environment using programmable LED panels, integrating thousands of addressable RGB warm white LEDs. Collaborating with performers and dancers, they infuse A.I. and machine learning for movement tracking and sound recognition, creating a multi-sensory dimension. The studio's vision transcends analog-digital and traditional-new divides, fostering collaboration among engineers, painters, coders, and performers. Operating as a creative home, it facilitates discussions, exhibitions, and performances. Collaborations with diverse cultural spaces and events underscore their commitment to inclusivity and engaging a broader spectrum of society.

Tasks

As part of our creative communications team, you will expand our studio's reach via Instagram, emails, in Germany, Europe, and globally, attracting new art collectors, advisors, galleries, and art institutions for our installations and performances. You'll design and produce visual materials for our communication channels and update and write content for our website. During your internship, you'll oversee creative processes and communication.

You will also:

  • Building the cognitive paintings and LED panels ( woodwork, metalwork, and electrical tasks)
  • Assist in delivering contemporary exhibitions and commissions, from research and development to installation.
Requirements
  • Background in Art & Communication, Filmmaking, Management, or similar.
  • Passion for the art industry and eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Proficiency in consulting, filming, writing, and editing.
  • Strong interest in social media, especially Instagram.
  • Responsible team player with excellent communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with ADOBE Creative Cloud and Google Workspace.
  • Availability for 3-4 days a week, 10 am to 5 pm, at the Studio.
  • Ability to work independently and propose new ideas.

Independence, critical thinking, and the ability to propose new ideas are essential. You'll have ample freedom for self-development and skill enhancement.

Benefits

You'll learn metal, wood, canvas, and electronics work, and organizing large art exhibitions blending performance, visual art, and rave culture. You'll join a community . While unpaid, this internship offers valuable experience in production, communication, choreography, sound design, and more. It's a part-time, six-month internship, allowing time for side work, with significant responsibility and potential for long-term partnerships.

We strive to respond to every application, but please understand that due to the high volume, it may take time.

AnalogDream is a queer artist studio that emerged nearly two decades into the 21st century out of the increasingly technological and less and less fixed, binary world that we as a society are constantly creating for ourselves. We work at the intersection of contemporary art, performing art, music and rave, focusing our diverse skills and knowledge on exploring how each can amplify the capabilities of the other. AnalogDream brings together painters, programmers, dancers, engineers, audio artists and filmmakers to ask a myriad of urgent questions: how do we connect with each other and break gender and social boders, how do we create safe and intimate space for queer and non queer people form old and young - both through the artworks we produce and the means by which we produce them.
