Huawei's Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL) is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of mobile network technologies and communication systems for vertical industries. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 framework, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL focus has shifted to next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies, towards 2030.
 

Join us as a

PhD internship in next-generation wireless networks (m/f/d)

 

Your mission

  • Study novel antenna architecture for MIMO communication based on large aperture phased array, which uses hundreds or thousands of passive antenna elements
  • Investigate application of this antenna architecture in practical scenarios foreseen for next-generation wireless networks, including communication with non-terrestrial networks (NTN), and compare with conventional active MIMO antenna array (with fewer antenna elements)
  • Carry out performance evaluation and sensitivity analysis in link-level simulations
  • Assist in the writing of technical reports and academic papers


Your areas of expertise

  • Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Telecommunications or other related disciplines
  • Extensive knowledge in mobile communication systems, in particular on PHY/MAC technologies
  • Proven experience with MIMO and NTN communications systems is a plus
  • Familiar with link-level and/or network-level simulation tools
  • Demonstrated skills of programming in MATLAB, C++ and/or Python
  • Team-work spirit, independent working and quick learning capability, as well as hands-on and can-do attitude
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
