Your mission

At sewts we automate what others can’t. Gripping of deformable materials like textiles is a task most humans see as intuitive and simple. However, this is a complicated task for robots as they lack the detailed and contextual understanding of where and with what level of sensitivity to handle these textiles. As deep-tech enthusiasts, we teach robots human-like perception skills.

We are building a foundational technology stack called sewts.JUPITER. JUPITER uses genAI to simulate realistically the behavior of deformable & soft objects to create corresponding computer vision models and grabbing strategies. Based on our physical AI first time ever robots get enabled to handle soft & deformable materials. With over €10M in funding we will bring automation into all untapped industries, like cloth manufacturing, textiles handling, recycling & e-commerce.

You will be an integral part of our JUPITER Software Team, which is responsible for bringing a highly performant AI platform, specialised on deformable materials, to life. It runs in all our robotic products, which comprises a framework to train AI models, a middleware to run a configurable pipeline including AI models, computer vision algorithms on an edge device, and a user interface for configuration, calibration, and monitoring.

As our new Data Engineering Intern (m/f/d), you will be an integral part of our Software Team. You will design our process for data gathering and data usage in our AI model. You will build, implement and fill our database of training data and program the API needed to retrieve pictures from it for training, testing and validation within our framework.

How you will create an impact with us:

• You manage a database, holding metadata, for pictures, AI Artifacts; 
• You program an interface to query the metadata, retrieve the data behind it and use it in our training framework;
• You design and document the processes to handle data and the database;
• You support the rollout of the process;
• You implement solutions for data ingestion and data preparation. 

Your profile

• You are currently studying or have recently finished your studies in the field of Computer Science or a similar subject; 
• You have already gained first-hand experience with NO-SQL databases;
• You have good programming skills in Python and experience with shell scripting; 
• You have previous experience in Data Engineering (a big plus!);
• You have a hands-on, proactive work style, with the ability to skilfully articulate and present your ideas to your team.
