Internship topic: development of a composite indicator of local resilience and econometric study to estimate the impact of energy installations on territorial development in France.
Are you interested in working on Economics, statistics and territorial studies?
The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER) is looking for a
Trainee (f/m/d)
in the research group "Energy Transition, Markets, Environment".
The European Institute for Energy Research was founded by EDF and the KIT in 2002 aiming at enhancing collaboration through joint projects applied to industrial issues and utilities’ needs. With its applied research orientation EIFER is bridging the gap between science and industry for more than 20 years. In the context of the European energy transition, EIFER provides research-based innovative energy solutions for the sustainable development of cities and communities, economic activities, and territories.
The aim of this internship is to contextualize the benefits of the presence of energy infrastructures in a given area. To this end, the internship is composed of two activities contributing to this local diagnosis:
- the adaptation/the development of a composite indicator of the well-being of communes/localities, and
- the realization of an econometric study assessing the impact of hydroelectric facilities on the development of municipalities.
The results will allow to compare areas with key energy infrastructures to those without.
The first activity requires a bibliographic phase and the review of existing indicators and methods, followed by the development and then an implementation phase of a composite indicator for French municipalities.
For the second activity, the student will use panel econometrics and double-difference estimation methods to assess the impacts on municipalities and inter-municipalities benefiting from hydroelectric facilities. The impacts observed will involve socio-economic and demographic variables such as population, employment, public finances, presence of services and infrastructures, etc. The ambitions assigned to the various tasks will be adapted during the course of the internship and as the work progresses.
The Assigned Tasks Involve
- A literature review/bibliographic research
- The identification and compilation of databases
- The development of composite indicator(s): statistical analysis, aggregation techniques and weighting of simple and/or composite indicators
- The implementation and testing of the indicator on case studies
- The implementation of an econometric panel model: creation of an econometric model
The position is aiming to Master-students in econometrics, economics and geo-mathematics students with preferably an option in economics/spatial econometrics.
